Bedroom Ideas

Okay, initially I was thinking about doing something like this,
Loving the painting above the bed and the turquoise bed skirt.

Or this,
Great rug and curtains.  I have a chest at the foot of the bed now that could easily be painted or even kept white.

BUT, now I'm thinking I might do THIS instead:

I'm leaning toward a mostly white bedroom with pops of navy and turquoise for fun.  We've decided to buy a white duvet and shams from Pottery Barn. It's a bit of a splurge for us but the duvet will still work when we upgrade to a bigger bed.

Since we live in a rental, painting the walls is off the table but I want to find a fun rug that won't get dirty too easily.  I considered sisal or jute but it's just not practical for the bedroom.  I think a trip to the Greenfront in Farmville may be in order soon.  I've never been but my mom loves it.  I wonder what I will be able to afford on my nonexistent budget?

My Very First Before and After

So, this was what my dresser looked like before:
It came from my childhood bedroom.  My parent's bought it in 1987 to give you and idea of how old it is and in it's current state, it's not exactly conducive to getting ready in the morning.

Here is what it looks like now:

Before you ask, yes I did actually put the stuff on top of the dresser where it belongs.  The necklaces are most likely there to stay because if they're not in plain sight, I forget I own them.  I went through the stuff that landed on top of the dresser and donated some things.  I bought a basket at Pier One for $10 and used two pink containers I already owned to hold make up and hair stuff.  They jewelry box holds mostly sentimental pieces, gifts and things my grandmother owned so it's not going away either.

I went though a period where I was convinced I could pull off headbands like Blair Waldorf.

I can't.  So I got rid of any headband with an attachment.  I still have to go through what's inside the drawers and possibly paint the dresser since I can't afford to replace it but that's it for now!

Bedroom Before Pictures- I Have No Shame

Yes, it really is that messy.  Why?  Well, we both work full-time and neither of us enjoys cleaning. I usually end up doing in because Boyfriend's job is exhausting and he falls asleep as soon as he gets home from work.  The other problem is that we have too much STUFF! It's really me though since most of Boyfriend's stuff is stored elsewhere.

These shoe cubbies used to be on either side of the dresser with the mirror.  I moved them yesterday and I love them in the corner behind the door!  I started moving and cleaning before I took these pictures but obviously I didn't get very far.

I'm still figuring out how to use the scanner so I can upload some inspiration pictures but until then, here's one that I found online.  The colors are just right!

The First Post

I recently got very into reading design blogs which made me realize how unhappy I was with how my house looked.  When I moved in, my mom picked out most of my furniture or it came with me from my parents' house.  I didn't really mind too much at the time because I was starting a new job and didn't have time to shop  Six years and one boyfriend who has moved in later, I am ready to turn the house into a place that I LOVE!  So, without further ado, THE PLAN:

Living Room Inspirations:

We just bought a new(to us) couch of off craigslist for $200.  It's ivory colored and the fabric is a very loose weave.  It's not exactly what I wanted but we are working on a budget of almost nothing.  The previous couch was an uncomfortable floral monstrosity that was too small for more than two people.  The rug we have right now is small, pale green, and dirty.  I want to put down a sisal or jute rug instead.  Picture of the current space will be posted soon.

Bedroom:
The only thing I am sure of right now is that I want to do a white and blue/turquoise color palette and that the current rug has to go.  It was pink once upon a time and now it's...not.  I don't have any inspiration photos right now because they're sitting in a file folder waiting to be scanned.  The first project in the bedroom will be to clean, purge, and organize!

That's all for now but more pictures(and update) will come soon!
