The Pillows Are Here!

I made my first purchase from Joss and Main last week.  These fabulous pillows!

Here is how they look on the couch.  I love how they pick up the orange in the picture above the couch.

We still need to find some simple green pillows and maybe one other pillow.  I love how they pick up the orange in the picture above the couch.

I was thinking about putting one of the pillows on the red leather chair.

Here is what the chair looks like now.

It has the bargain pillow I got from Garden Ridge the other week on it right now.  The green pillow at the back matches the green striped chair and helps pull the room together.

And here it is with the new pillow on it.

I think there is too much going on in the picture with the new pillow.  I'll have to try it in a few more places(meaning on the only other chair in the room) before I can be sure I want both pillows on the couch.

Living Room Before Take 2

The pictures from my earlier living room post were  pre living with the boyfriend.  Since then we have moved around some furniture, my mom has reclaimed some of the pieces she lent me, and we have bought a new couch and rug.

New couch!  It needs to be accessorized.  We are using stuff we had around the house for now but I just bought two pillows from Joss and Main.  Can't wait for them to arrive!

The desk I had in high school.  That is staying in the room because I love it and it holds a ton of stuff.  We need to figure out a permanent place for the whiskey bottles because they are all over the place!

Ugly entertainment center.  Needs to be replaced.  

Oxblood leather chair.  Found this at a thrift store a few years ago for $80!

It may appear that things are clean and organized but now I have to show you the other angle in the room:

This used to be the dining area.  Now it holds everything we haven't figured out where to put, craft projects, and stuff from me for work.  Every time we visit the boyfriend's mother, she gives him more of his stuff.  Even after almost three years, we are still figuring out what to do with his stuff.  

You can't even see all the boxes in this picture.  

To Do:
1. New pillows for couch- ordered two from Joss and Main.  Need to find some green ones too.
2. New throw for couch
3. New rug
4. Replace entertainment center
5. Figure out what to do about dining area
6. Come up with permanent home for whiskey bottles
7. Find bigger coffee table

What to do about the sliding glass door?

In an ideal world, the door to our patio would look like this

Instead, it looks like this: 

Yes, it really is that dark and this is with me lightening the photo jus so you could make out the top of the blinds.  The blinds are coming down but here is what it looks like when they are closed.

Missing a large portion of the vanes and very yellowed from age.  These are original to the house and need updating badly.  

We are putting up a curtain rod that will go almost to the ceiling.  We just have to find the right curtains now that we have made some color decisions.

Color Decisions: It's not easy being green

We have been through so many different color ideas for the living room.  We had a really hard time coming to a decision because nothing that is in the room now matches.  We finally looked at the green and white striped chair that we love and decided to go with green.  You might remember this image from my living room inspirations:

This is the look we have decided on!  We are going to get this rug from Urban Outfitters: 

I am super excited!  Not sure if we are going with a single rug or getting a sisal as well to put under the rug but I think it will look great either way.  

The challenge of pillows and curtains still remains.  I love the ikat and chevron prints that are out there now but I need to find some other prints to balance.  I love the pillows in the inspiration picture, especially the blue one.  I'm pretty sure these are the exact curtains from the picture and they are doable price wise, I'm not sure they're right for the space and need to see them in person before I can make a decision so hopefully we will find the time for a trip to ikea soon!

More Living Room Inspiration

I love the use of color in this room.  Seeing this made me rethink my color scheme and now I have a lot more options.  I would love to do a color on the walls but since it's a rental property, we'll be sticking with white.  It never occurred to me that pink could work so well in a living room.  I was sure about using red and yellow but now I'm thinking more about using shades of pink and green or doing red and blue together.  I also love the ottoman/coffee table.  It's exactly what my space needs.

This was one of my original inspirations.  I love just about everything in this room. The couches, the ottoman, the curtains.  LOVE!  

I realize that eventually I am going to have to reveal what my living room looks like right now.  That day is very close at hand.  But until then, here's a picture of what it looked like a few years ago before we replaced the couch:
